Dr. Karen Dinsmore

Dr. Karen Dinsmore, Ph.D, R.Psych

Dr. Dinsmore is a clinical and counselling psychologist who works with adults seeking psychological services. She is registered with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology and has a doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in Clinical and Counselling Psychology from the University of Toronto. Dr. Dinsmore has worked with individuals with a range of mental health concerns including depression, anxiety, trauma, personality disorders, eating disorders, psychosis, low self-esteem, complex grief, career related stress, relationship issues, and interpersonal difficulties. Settings in which she has worked include inpatient and outpatient hospital programs, a community organization, a university counselling center, and private practices.

Dr. Dinsmore has received training in a range of evidence-based modalities such as Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy, Emotion–Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapies, And Brief Solution-Focused Therapy. However, her main therapeutic orientation is rooted in emotion-focused and psychodynamic therapies to help her clients get to the core of their problems and facilitate transformational change. As a life-long learner, who is passionate about upholding her ethical duty as a registered psychologist to maintain ongoing updated knowledge and professional development, she keeps abreast of psychotherapy research and participates in advanced psychotherapy training and consultation.
